Design

Crafted with a simple and slim profile, the North Face Backpack is much larger than a camelback water carrier but with a similar shape; it offers more pockets, a deeper vault interior, and loads of packing potential. It features adjustable shoulder straps for handling any haul and measures 19 inches while offering 27 liters of packing space. So you get a thinner bag with a deeper space – if you’re looking for something more casual but sufficient for rock climbing or repelling trips, this is a great pick.

Storage

Offering 27 liters of interior packing space this vault backpack is designed with many different interior compartments to better organize the space. The main large compartment features enough space for your books and binders for any number of daily courses, while the secondary smaller zippered opening offers an organization panel in the lip of the backpack. Within the drop-in bottom the backpack gives access to a padded pocket for a laptop computer at or under 15 inches. The exterior is fairly simple without much extra packing space besides two side stretch pockets for water bottles or your on-hand camera while hiking. Also keep in mind that this is a rather tall backpack when fully packed, so make sure you adjust the shoulder straps for the best distribution of weight while carrying each day’s load. For backpacking and rock climbing The North Face also offers all kinds of adventure packs which might be better suited for your particular adventure – so take a look at the Borealis Men’s Backpack and many other North Face originals!

Features

The North face backpack boast a FlexVent suspension system with molded shoulder compression straps and a padded air mesh back panel with a spine channel for maximum support and ventilation. The bag also features a comfortable padded top haul handle, a floating padded laptop sleeve in the main compartment to protect against bumps, and even a sternum strap with whistle buckle. The secondary compartment has the most internal organization with a secure zippered pocket, Velcro pocket, and pen pockets. Finally, this design also features reflective bike-light loops, reflective water bottle tabs, and even reflective shoulder strap webbing for 360 degrees of reflectivity that allows drivers to see you even late into the evening. While some packs like the SwissGear 1900 TSA Laptop Backpack seem to think of every little thing, few can boast the level of thought which goes into crafting an original North Face pack.

Weight

Weighing in at 1.7 pounds this backpack is heavier than most standard college-campus bookbags, but also much lighter than your standard haul bag while out mountaineering. For airfare purposes this backpack will probably count as your carry-on rather than a standard personal item, though check with your airline to see what size backpack is their highest limit to be counted as a personal item.

Durability

The North face backpack features an interior lining made from 600 D polyester and crafted into the vault of the pack in order to protect against water coming in from the outside. Meanwhile, the exterior is made from 1200 D polyester which is quite hardy and lends itself to a variety of style options – however, the down side is that this material is still weaker than cotton canvas (middle-density) or nylon blends (highest density). Polyester is more water tight than other materials but also more likely to wear and rip as time passes. Other durability features include true metal hardware along with self-repairing zippers that offer long zipper pulls, durability-stitched top haul handles and adjustable shoulder straps, along with additional padded interior around the laptop and between it and your other bouncing belongings.

Style

For a mountaineering backpack this brand surprisingly offers a lot of style options for your gear, including over 19 different color schemes – our favorite selections being either Twill Beige/British Khaki or Taupe Green Combo/High Rise Grey. No matter the choice though, each of these selections has more of a woodsy look to offer the next adventurer, and each comes equipped with the North Face company logo.

Size

Measuring in full at 19.5 X 13 X 8.7 inches the North Face Backpack is tall and wide, but still much more manageable than your average mountaineering or backpacking choice; it also fits next to everything you’ll need for a group day hike or a long day of classes on campus. At this size it also comes with a chest strap, dual shoulder straps, and total adjustability to your chest width and length.

Warranty

The North Face products are warrantied to the original owner against defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the product, but only if purchased from an authorized The North Face reseller. Limitations apply.

Also, for such a large vault bag its surprisingly affordable, though still more expensive than your average college backpack.
